Final Steps
All pieces should be cut and labeled: Label your fabrics as darkest, #1, #2, #3, #4, light, medium and accent, to keep the fabrics straight in your own mind. Label all the pieces you cut A, B, C, D, E etc. and set aside.
You have made all the units that are required to put the secondary block together, it is now time to make the Stepping Stone Block.
Lay out 5 Four Patch units, 4 flying geese, 2 background print #4 rectangles (3 ½’ x 2”), 2 units (long rectangle unit with squares sewn on either end). Join into sections; join sections to complete one Stepping Stone Block. Be sure you are using the correct four patches in the correct placement. The red in the diagram is your accent color. Make 10 blocks.

Materials:
The first set of directions for the mystery quilt is to choose two colors that look good together, one is predominant while the other provides a pop of color.
The majority of the fabric for the quilt is one color, shades of that color from dark, medium to light. The blocks have two different backgrounds that should coordinate with all the fabrics. You can make your background fabric throughout the quilt, one fabric, if you prefer.
To start: either buy your fabric or use from your own fabric stash. "Stars and Stripes" is the name of the quilt, but do not be fooled by the title, any color combination would work with this quilt.
