We will again be making BOM for Quilts of Valor (QOV) so start collecting your red/white/blue fabrics!
Materials:
Red: (1) 6 1/2" square
(2) 3 1/2" squares
White: (1) 6 1/2" square
(2) 3 1/2" squares
Blue: (4) 3 1/2" squares
Make a four patch using 3 1/2" squares, press, then join to larger squares to make the block.
See attached instructions for a quilt top.

Blocks due February 10, 2021
Materials needed: Please choose true flag tones of red, white, and blue. Each color can be the same fabric or all different fabrics
White: (2) 3 ½” squares (16) 2” squares
Blue: (8) 3 ½” squares Red: (8) 3 ½” squares
1. Lay out dark squares in pleasing arrangement. (You are making one red and one blue)
2. Mark 2” light squares on diagonal.
3. Lay 2” light square on dark square, stitch on drawn line, trim ¼” from stitching, press toward dark.
4. Repeat with another 2” light square on adjacent corner. Make 4 star point units.
5. Layout units for block following diagrams above. Stitch units onto rows.
6. IMPORTANT PRESSING NOTE- PRESS ALL BLUE SEAMS TOWARD CENTER OF BLOCK, PRESS ALL RED SEAMS TOWARD OUTSIDE OF BLOCK.
7. Stitch rows together to make block. Block should be 9 ½”, please correct your seam allowance if it is not 9 ½”. DO NOT TRIM.
8. Sign you name or initials in the seam allowance.
9. Blocks can be dropped off at American Ribbon or call Laura to make arrangements for pickup.
10. Make as many pairs of stars as you like- the more we have the more QOV we can make!
Blocks due March 10, 2021
Make as many blocks as you like using quilt quality 100% cotton prints, marbles, tone on tone, etc. in flag shades of white/blue. You can use a single fabric for each color or make the blocks scrappy.
Supplies:(4) 2 ½” squares blue(1) 6 ½” square white
Mark diagonal on wrong side of (4) blue squares
Place blue squares right sides together on white 6 ½” square, stitch on diagonal line.Trim seam to ¼”, press toward blue.
Blocks due April 14, 2021
Make as many blocks as you like using quilt quality 100% cotton prints, marbles,
tone on tone, etc. in flag shades of red/white/blue. You can use a single fabric for
each color or make the blocks scrappy.
Supplies:
(4) 2 ½” squares red
(4) 2 ½” squares blue
(1) 2 ½” square white
Join 2 ½” squares to make nine-patch.
Finished block is 6
Blocks due May 12, 2021
White: (2) 5” squares
(4) 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles
Blue: (2) 5” squares
(1) 4 ½” square
Red: (4) 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles
1. Draw diagonal line on back of (2) white 5” squares.
2. Place white 5” square right side together with blue 5” square.
3. Stitch SCANT ¼” seams on BOTH sides of drawn line, cut on drawn line,
press seams toward blue, trim each HST to 4 ½”, being sure to center points
on diagonal.
4. Join red 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangle to white 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangle, make 4,
press toward red.
5. Join HST, pieced squares, and 4 ½” blue square to form block pictured at
left. Press seams in same direction.
6. Block should measure 12 ½”. (IF IT DOES NOT MEASURE AT LEAST 12 ½”,
PLEASE CHECK YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE AND REMAKE). DO NOT TRIM.
Blocks due June 12, 2021
Fabrics:
Blue: (5) 6 ½” squares
White: (1) 6 ½” square
Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the white square and two blue squares.
Place these right sides together with remaining blue squares.
*If you make more than one block, you can mix up the fabrics to make scrappier blocks.
