This is part two of our Country Stars quilt. In December we made
blue and white 9-patch blocks and snowball blocks. For January we
will be making two different 9-patch blocks. Members will be
provided with packets containing 8 - 2 1/2" light red squares and
8 - 2 1/2" white squares. Members will use 8 - 2 1/2" squares of dark
reds from their own stash. Try to use a variety of reds to create a
scrappy look to the quilt.
Use the two pictures as a guide to color placement for your blocks.
The more blocks we get, the larger the quilt we can make.
This quilt is made with four different blocks. All the block are either
a snowball or a 9-patch but the color placement will create the
pattern. We will make two different blocks in December and then in
January make two more different blocks., The white and light red
fabric will be provided by the guild. One packet in December and a different packet in January.
9-Patch-December
Cut five 2 1/2" squares with blue fabric. Using the four white squares
provided make a 9-patch following color placement in diagram A,,
Snowball - December
Use the 6 1/2" white square provided and the two light red 2 1/2"
squares. Cut from your own fabric two 2 1/2" blue squares.
Place the red squares on two corners of the large square and two
blue squares on the opposite corners. Draw a diagonal line from
corner to corner on the wrong side of each of the small squares. Sew on the line, cut 1/4" away and press fabric towards the outside of the block. See diagram B and C.
This block will use Christmas like but not Christmas patterned fabric of red
and green. The white will be provided by the guild.
Assemble four matching units with the white rectangles and the small green (1 1/2) square as shown.
